I love caramel apples. Every time I am out and about at a mall or shopping downtown and I come across a chocolate or candy store I buy myself a delicious apple covered in caramel, chocolate, and all of the yummy goodness that cover them from top to bottom. Unfortunately (for me and my wallet) I can never eat a whole one before it goes brown. And after paying $10 or more for one – I end up wasting so much money that I decided enough is enough. I needed to find a way to get the delicious flavor of a fancy caramel apple that I can finish before it goes bad and I have to throw it out. Enter – Caramel Apple Dessert Nachos.

Caramel Apple Dessert Nachos

I love nachos. I make them with chips, tater tots, french fries – almost any way that you can imagine them. So making apples into nachos was not an outrageous idea. It’s fast, simple, and delicious. You can add as much or as little of the toppings as you’d like.

Perfect for an after school snack, Halloween party dessert, or a treat during a weekend movie with the family.

Caramel Apple Dessert Nachos

I love caramel apples but I can never eat a whole one before it goes brown. So I knew I would love these caramel apple nachos to share! Caramel apple nachos are delicious and a whole lot of fun to eat – Perfect for a party.

  • lemon juice
  • 4 granny smith apples (cored and sliced)
  • 10 oz caramel ((homemade or store bought))
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 10 oz chocolate melts (the yummy kind) or chocolate chips/chocolate candy ((melted))
  • candy eyes
  • Halloween colored sprinkles
  • any other toppings as needed/wanted
  1. Fill a large bowl with 2 parts water and 1 part lemon juice. It might seem like a lot of juice but it will keep your apples fresh! Plus it adds a little sour flavor that we all liked!

  2. Cut apples into slices and add them to the water/lemon juice mixture asap. Make sure the apples are covered and let them sit in the mix until you are ready to plate the “nachos”.

  3. Unwrap caramels. Place in a saucepan with one teaspoon of water over medium low heat. Stir constantly until caramels are melted.

  4. Place chocolate melts in the microwave (follow directions to melt as every brand has its own directions). Melt.

  5. Drizzle melted caramel over sliced apples. I like to go in a circular pattern.

  6. Drizzle melted chocolate over sliced apples. I like to go in a circular pattern.

  7. Sprinkle with Halloween sprinkles.

  8. Add “sets” of eyes sporadically around the platter of apples. These were my kid’s favorite part. It made the apples “feel alive”.

Serve IMMEDIATELY.

Other recipes use melted white or dark chocolate and pieces of Heath or Snickers candy bars, but really – you can add whatever you like on your apples. I have tried chopped nuts and butterscotch. As long as you have a sticky glue (sauce) and some fun add ons the sky is the limit!  Other toppings that you could try are:

  • crushed pretzels and chocolate
  • coconut, milk chocolate, and almonds (like Almond Joy Mix)
  • any small candy like mini M&M’s or mini Reese’s
  • chocolate chips or peanut butter chips

What do you want to add to your dessert nachos? What are you doing for Halloween this year?
