If you saw my post earlier this week you now know all about my dislike for pizza. So I created a new crust that has me in a better place. But once I had that crust ready to go I did not know what to top it with. I dislike most sauces on pizza because there is either too much of it or it tastes like someone smeared tomato juice on the crust and called it good. I need a little FLAVOR without too much heat. So again, I decided the best thing to do was to make it myself – Homemade Pizza Sauce.
So after many times of trial and error and researching what is in typical “seasoning” packets I came up with the following. It tastes like fresh sauce with a little kick thanks to the paprika! Yes! Paprika!
Homemade Pizza Sauce
Pizza Sauce
This sauce is perfect for any pizza but works great on smoked pizza. It adds just enough flavor without taking away from the smoky-ness you get.
- 30 oz tomato sauce
- 12 oz tomato paste
- .5 tbsp garlic salt
- 1.5 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 2 tsp parsley
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp paprika
- .5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Whisk together until thoroughly combined.
As you can see from my image below- I don’t like a lot of sauce. I just don’t need a lot. I need enough to give a little moisture and for the toppings to help stick to the dough. But my husband slathered his sauce on and it looked really good so if you like a lot of sauce go for it!
The joy of cooking at home is so that you can make it YOUR way – not the way Papa J thinks pizza should be made 🙂
What is the craziest topping that you add to your pizza?
