Sweat.
Dripping.
Hot.
Humid.
It is so hot.
I can barely breathe.
Don’t touch me.
Why is there no air?
All I want is a little air, just a little. Please?
My pants are stuck to my legs. I have sweat dripping down my back. I am sitting in front of not 1 but 2 fans. The window is open and I am praying for a breeze to come through.
Fact of Life: When you get older you get colder.
So I went looking for answers. I googled every combo of:
- old
- people
- cold
- heat
- temperature
- geriatric
- health
- air conditioning
- sweat
and the best answer that I could find was this one:
The American Geriatric Society Foundation for health states that since older adults have slower metabolisms, they don’t produce enough heat from their own body. They are also frequently affected by poor circulation and thus are prone to cold hands, feet, ears, nose, etc.
So basically the doctors are telling me that there is nothing I can do. That I am just destined to melt in place while my parents sleep comfortably in their room right down the hall.
The only other answer that I found is that the older you get the tighter with money you get so maybe old people are just trying to cut costs on electricity. Maybe.
My parents are only 60 years old. Some would say (me) that they are an old 60, so more like 75.
Have you ever seen that old Seinfeld episode where Jerry and Elaine are visiting Jerry’s parents in Florida? Watch it here:
I am Elaine. All day and all night in this house. If I don’t get air conditioning soon you will find me here – with Homer in the fridge tent, in my underwear:
Pray for me. Tomorrow I am turning on the air if it gets this warm again so there might be a tussle.
Extra sweaters, socks, and winter gear can be sent to:

PS. It was only 80 degrees today so it was gorgeous outside. But being gorgeous outside does not always translate into a comfortable sleeping temperature inside the house.
